(Westminster, ca. 1895). In two volumes. Elephant folio. Illustrated by Arthur Layard, and bound with 122 of his original pen and ink drawings for the work's printed illustrations (each drawing bound facing the printed illustration), some heightened in white gouache and blue pencil. Printed 8vo text leaves and illustrations window-mounted into folio sheets. Three-quarter green levant over green cloth-covered boards, decorated in gilt, spines browned, boards lightly and unevenly browned, spines ends and joints lightly worn, short splits at top and bottom of front joints of second volume; top edges gilt, other edges untrimmed; marbled endpapers; by Riviere; scattered soiling on folio leaves; original cloth bound in at rear of second volume.

A unique extra-illustrated copy of this classic and fictional account of Sir John Maundeville's world travels, containing the original pen and ink drawings for the work by illustrator Arthur Layard.
